ABOUT
GIS Virtual Machine concept was born in the middle of 2007, based on a personal idea for helping some GIS technicians colleagues to easily enter into the world of Free Open Source Software for GIS.
Since I couldn't find a single Virtual Appliance with GIS software on the Internet, at August's 2008, I've decided to make a simple general purpose Virtual Machine and announce it with a simple site.
GISVM is an Unsponsored project.
It was a success from the first day, 1 September 2008, and has grown immensely until today.
GISVM is now available on three versions:
- GISVM Base
- GISVM Desktop
- GISVM Server
GISVM is now known all over the World and has recently engaged a OSGeo project for building the LiveDVD for FOSS4G 2009, and every day it gets more people envolved on building it!
This suite of programs is distributed under the GNU General Public Licence Version 3.
