Start-up
« on: March 31, 2010, 04:24:37 PM »
Hey, I have been given the task of looking into GISVM server at work and I must admit I am no linux guru!

I am looking for some tips on getting the initial system up and running. So far I have downloaded the VM and got it up and running in a VMware EXSi server environment.

When starting the VM I receive the following error:
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found

I looked on a previous post that they change the settings in etc/network/interfaces

I managed to open the file in the VI editor, however it doesn’t let me edit when I go in using sudo. I want the server to run with a static IP so I am looking to add a few extra lines etc into that file as well.
If this all I need to do to get the Server up and running?

Regards, any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry for the SPAM!!!

With the information you have sent I only can guess...
Have you checked, inside EXSi, your GISVM virtual machine settings?
Does it include any virtual Ethernet Card?

Or does it have more than one Virtual Ethernet card?
GISVM server is configured for a single ethernet card (eth0) virtual machine.

So, my first advise to solve your problem is to change, inside EXSi, the GISVM Virtual Machine settings to a single ethernet card, the one you want to use!

To start up, you probably should also try running GISVM Server on your desktop, with VMWare Player...

Hope this could be of any help!

Cheers,
